When traveling, I always bring a large-enough hotel towel to minimize contact with a loaner mat. After each use of my own mat at home, I use Clorox wipes (which contain the bacteria-killing ingredients listed in the article) and line-dry it and as a result haven't caught athelete's foot in years.

These “scare-monger” news stories (there’s a similar one at http://wcbstv.com/seenat11/local_story_212200337.html ignore the fact that you can just as easily pick up athelete’s foot in the locker room of your local gym.
The nation’s increasing Body Mass Index is a much bigger health risk – I hope no one will put off going to class because of this lousy reporting. Wear flip flops in the shower rooms and you’ll be fine. The benefits of an hour-and-a-half workout are so worth it.
